Two Egyptian nationals arrested in connection with a physical altercation in K. Himmafushi have been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation and to be barred from re-entering the country.
The Maldives Police Service said the incident was reported at around 7:24 pm on Monday following reports of a fight in Himmafushi.
Police arrested the two men on suspicion of involvement in the incident. They were later presented before the court and remanded in custody for two days.
According to police, statements were taken from those involved and other investigative procedures were completed.
Based on the findings of the investigation, police requested Maldives Immigration to deport the two men and place them on the immigration blacklist to prevent their return to the Maldives.
Police did not disclose the circumstances that led to the altercation.
Videos shared on social media showed foreign workers receiving medical treatment after sustaining injuries during the incident.
