Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle more than one kilogram of narcotics into the Maldives by air.

Police identified two of those arrested as 53-year-old Jamaican national Andrew Lloyd Corbin and 20-year-old Ibrahim Athoof of Norightge, N. Lhohi. The identity of a third Maldivian suspect has not been disclosed.

According to police, Corbin was arrested on Sunday after the Maldives Customs Service shared intelligence indicating that he was concealing narcotics inside his body when he arrived in the Maldives on a flight.

Ibrahim Athoof and the third suspect were arrested on Monday in Hulhumalé during a joint operation by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.

Police said the two Maldivian suspects are believed to have conspired with Corbin to import, traffic and distribute narcotics in the Maldives.

At remand hearings, the court ordered Corbin and Athoof to be held in custody for 15 days.

The third suspect was released under conditions pending the outcome of the investigation.

Police said investigations into the case are ongoing.
