30-year-old man dies during fishing trip in Shaviyani atoll

A 30-year-old man from R. Dhuvaafaru has died after entering the sea from a fishing vessel operating in the waters of Shaviyani Atoll.
Police said the incident was reported at around 3:20pm on Tuesday after the man’s condition deteriorated following his return to the vessel. He was taken to the health centre in Sh. Maroshi.
According to police, the health centre said the man was already dead when he was brought to the facility.
Police identified the deceased as Mohamed Shaffaan, 30, of Lilymaage, R. Dhuvaafaru.
Police said they are investigating the incident.
Deaths have previously been reported in the Maldives in connection with diving activities, including incidents involving decompression sickness.
