Govt extends hazardous chemical registration deadline to 27 Oct
Ministry said the number of businesses that had applied for permits was low compared with the number of businesses registered to sell chemicals.

The Ministry of Defence has extended the deadline for businesses dealing in hazardous chemicals to obtain permits and register their storage facilities until 27 October.
In an announcement gazetted on Sunday, the ministry said the previous deadline for businesses selling hazardous chemicals to apply for the required permits and register chemical storage facilities through the Makudi Portal had expired.
However, the ministry said the number of businesses that had applied for permits was low compared with the number of businesses registered to sell chemicals.
As a result, the ministry has decided to provide an additional month for businesses to obtain permits to sell hazardous chemicals and register the facilities where the chemicals are stored.
The ministry said businesses that continue to sell hazardous chemicals without registering for storage and sales permits within the extended period will face action under regulations governing hazardous chemicals.
Businesses that fail to comply will also no longer be issued permits to import hazardous chemicals into the Maldives, the ministry said.
