Police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a boy under the age of 18 on an island in the north of the Maldives.
A video related to the alleged incident has also been circulating on social media.
In a message sent to the media on Monday night, police said they were investigating “a case involving the alleged sexual assault of a male under the age of 18 on an island within the jurisdiction of North Police”.
Police did not provide further details about the case.
Maldivian law restricts the disclosure of information that could identify a child involved in such a case. The name of the island has therefore been withheld to protect the identity of the minor.
