MDP opens nominations for National Council elections scheduled for 27 November
The elections will be the first National Council elections held since the party introduced changes to its constitution.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened nominations for its National Council elections scheduled for 27 November, following amendments to the party's constitution.
According to an announcement issued by the party on Saturday, candidates must be registered MDP members as of 20 October 2026 to be eligible to contest the elections.
The elections will be the first National Council elections held since the party introduced changes to its constitution.
Nominations have opened for 10 categories of positions within the party's organisational structure.
Applications must be submitted through the MDP's Yellow App before 2pm on Sunday, 25 October.
The party has also introduced a nomination fee of MVR 1,000 for candidates contesting all National Council positions.
The positions open for election are:

National Council members elected from atolls and cities

National Council members representing islands and city constituencies

Vice-presidents of island and city constituencies

Secretaries of island and city constituencies

Women's secretaries of island and city constituencies

Youth secretaries of island and city constituencies

President of the Women's Wing

Five National Council members elected from the Women's Wing

President of the Youth Wing

Five National Council members elected from the Youth Wing
Candidates contesting youth positions must be between 18 and 31 years of age.
The elections will determine the composition of the party's National Council and several positions within its constituency, women's and youth structures under the revised constitution.
The MDP has directed prospective candidates to submit their nominations through the Yellow App within the announced deadline.
