The Maldives Police Service has officially begun using Smart Draw software to improve the speed and accuracy of road traffic accident investigations.

According to police, the software has been introduced by the Traffic Investigation Function under the Traffic Police and Road Management Department.

Police said the system would help officers conduct investigations more efficiently, improve technical standards and strengthen the documentation of evidence collected at accident scenes.

Smart Draw is software designed to produce diagrams and sketches of road accident scenes.

The system includes templates for different road layouts, including four-way intersections, T-junctions and straight roads.

It also provides ready-made symbols representing different types of vehicles, traffic signs, streetlights and other elements relevant to traffic investigations.

According to police, investigators can use Google Maps and satellite imagery within the software to prepare diagrams that more accurately represent the locations and circumstances of road accidents.

The police service said the introduction of Smart Draw was part of efforts to modernise traffic accident investigations, improve the quality of investigation reports and strengthen the recording of evidence.

Police added that they were continuing to introduce technology and equipment to improve the services provided across different parts of the Maldives.
