Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing 3-year-old child

The Criminal Court has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison after finding him guilty of sexually abusing a three-year-old child on multiple occasions.

The convicted man was identified as Mohamed Naish Adam, from Hudhuhudhaage, HA. Hoarafushi.

Prosecutors filed charges against Naish in August 2025 for engaging in sexual acts with a minor.

According to the prosecution, Naish sexually abused the child on several occasions beginning on 25 June 2025.

The Criminal Court found him guilty and delivered its verdict on Monday.

The court imposed a prison sentence of 20 years. After deducting the period Naish had already spent in custody, he will be required to serve a remaining sentence of 18 years, seven months and 28 days.

The court has not made the judgment public to protect the child's privacy, as the case involves a minor.
