The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked MMPRC to recover from a person MVR 37 million (USD 2.46 million) he received as part of the massive corruption carried out through MMPRC during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure.
According to a message sent to the media on Monday by ACC, MMPRC has been directed to recover the proceeds received by Abdulla Asim, H. Snoopy, Male, from the money paid to MMPRC by leasing out islands and lagoons for tourism purposes.
In a joint investigation conducted by the police and the ACC, 338 suspects have been investigated and 38 cases have been completed so far.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in his presidential address on February 6, shared statistics on the ACC’s handling of the MMPRC scandal:

A total of 14 cases have been filed in the court (including those filed by the previous government)

43 charges against five of them were proven in court

Case against seven persons and two companies is pending in court

The agency is investigating 53 cases

Criminal prosecution in eight of these cases is under discussion
As many as 30 islands and lagoons were leased through MMPRC, but the state had not received their proceeds amounting to MVR 1.5 billion.
