A section of K. Maafushi Prison, the main prison in the Maldives under the Correctional Service, has been designated as a remand prison.
In a gazette notification, the Correctional Service said home minister Imran Abdulla has declared wing 1 of unit 2 of Maafushi Prison as a remand jail with effect from Tuesday.
A person arrested for a crime:

Will be lodged in a police custodial or remand jail after remand hearing

Custodial cells are in Male and K. Dhoonidhoo prison facilities
-
After the verdict, the convict will be transferred to K. Himaafushi or Maafushi Prison
