President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Major General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef as the Chief of Defence Force on Friday.
The new President handed over the letter of appointment to the then Vice Chief of Defence Force Abdul Raheem at a ceremony held at the President's Office.
Abdul Raheem has held various positions in the MNDF during his long career. They include:

Commandant of Senahiya Hospital

Director General of Military Intelligence

Deputy Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre

Special Protection Group Commanding Officer

Commander of MNDF Southern Area Command

Commanding Officer of the Military Police
Abdul Raheem has received 17 medals for his services. These include the Presidential Special Medal, the Defence Force Service Medal, the Dedicated Service Medal and the November 3 Medal.
In addition to sitting on the boards and committees of the MNDF, he also served as the spokesperson of the MNDF for four years.
