President Mohammed Muizzu has stated that a number of resorts will be developed in different parts of the country so that resort employees can go back to their homes everyday after work.

He said this in a video posted on X on Thursday as part of his Raees-ge Javaabu segment to answer questions from the public directly.

So far, only one resort is operating in Thaa atoll. A young man asked the president whether he would develop more resorts during this term to promote tourism in the atoll, the President said that within these five years he will develop many resorts in the atoll.

"And I will hopefully provide young people with the opportunity to stay in their islands and go to work in nearby resorts. Very soon we will see that," he said.

"In other atolls as well, my objective is to add resorts in different parts of the country so that young people can work in resorts and go home to their own islands nearby”.

The President said his government gives great importance to providing income generation opportunities to the youth and people of all ages.

To promote the tourism industry, the President said:

  • He will develop airports and strive to improve the entire economy

  • In addition to the airport in Th. Thimarafushi and the airport in Vilufushi the previous government began to develop, his government has decided to build an airport in Guraidhoo as well.

"The growth we are trying to bring to the entire economy will increase the number of investors coming to Maldives. In addition, we are looking to expand and develop the Velana International Airport very soon. Then the number of tourists will increase," he said.

President Muizzu is currently visiting the island in Thaa atoll and during these visits spoke about his developmental plans for the islands.
