President vows flats for resort workers from next housing scheme

Space will be made for tourism industry employees from housing projects in different parts of the country, not in the capital area alone, Muizzu said.

President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu has said on Wednesday that the government will open up opportunities especially for resort employees in his next housing scheme.

The President was responding to a question from a local man in the special programme being conducted to facilitate the people to ask the President directly about their concerns.

As a tourism worker, Thoha Hussain, Nargis/R.Meedhoo, questioned when the promise in the manifesto to provide housing for tourism workers would be fulfilled.

In response to this question, the President said that the Cabinet has now decided to implement a special housing scheme for tourism workers within the social housing projects.

According to the President, the Cabinet decided to:

  • Based on the framework, the requirements of the category will be decided in consultation with various associations in the tourism sector

  • Allocations will be made for tourism industry employees from housing projects in different parts of the country, not in the capital area alone

"The housing units that start soon will also provide that. We are already doing a lot of work on it. I very much hope that it will happen this year," he said.
