10 youth recognised for societal contributions
The day was marked by the passage of a provision under the existing constitution that empowers people above 18 years of age to vote.
Ten young people who contribute to the community have been handed special awards on Sunday.
The Youth Awards were presented at a function held at the Social Centre Sunday evening to celebrate the National Youth Day. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the awards to the winners.
This award is given to recognise and encourage the youth for their contribution to the development of the country in various fields.

Youth Day is celebrated across the country on 22 October. The day was marked by the passage of a provision under the existing constitution that empowered people above 18 years of age to vote.
National Youth Day was first celebrated in the Maldives on 1 March, 1992. Since then, the country has also observed a Youth Day on 12 August, which is celebrated as World Youth Day.
As is being celebrated now, Youth Day was decided to be observed on 22 October in 2019.
