A corrections officer who was undergoing training at K. Maafushi Prison drowned Sunday.
Corrections spokesperson Aiminath Yusreen confirmed the death, but declined to provide further details.
In a message to the media, the police said they received information around 11:15am that a correctional staffer who was undergoing training in Maafushi had been taken to the island's health centre after she had drowned.

"We are looking into the matter," the police said.
In the past, there have been instances of deaths of security personnel undergoing training.
In March, private Mohammed Rafil Rabil passed away while undergoing training at the Army Training Centre in Lh. Maafilafushi.
