People’s National Congress (PNC) MP from Eydhafushi Ahmed Saleem (Redwave Saleem) has said that political positions still need to be increased to run the state right and there will be no unemployed people by the end of these five years.
Saleem said this while speaking at a rally at the PNC's Male camp on Tuesday evening.
Saleem was responding to the opposition's claims that the government has gone bankrupt. He also defended the increase in political positions in the government. He noted:
-
Since this government took over, no services have been deprived of the people
-
Government employees are now paid one day earlier than they used to be
-
No one has been cut from the civil service or a government company
“Whoever is given a political position, we have to accept that this is not a Bangladeshi or a person from any other village other than India. These are the people of the country. Each of them will have a local family. They will also need positions for a living, they will need money, they will need other things,' Salim said.
Businessman Saleem said there was no reason to worry about the increase in political positions.
"Anyone who is given a political position, we have to accept that this is not a Bangladeshi or Indian or any foreigner. These are Maldivian citizens. Each of them will have a Maldivian family. They will also want for positions, wealth and other things ," Saleem said.
He said the government's aim is to create jobs in companies and provide jobs to many people.
"Hopefully, no one who wants a job will be unemployed in the next five years. Everyone will be in jobs. And they will be paid adequately. There is nothing to worry about," Saleem added.
President Muizzu's presidential promise is to keep the number of political posts at 700. However, the opposition MDP says the number has now crossed 2,000. The government has yet to disclose the total number of politicians.
While Saleem said that governmental companies aren't cutting staff, some have been laid off. The companies said they were laid off for reasons such as negligence.
Saleem further added in his speech:
-
President Mohamed Muizzu is a president who discusses and acts on consensus and that is why he has such a large team with him
-
Some people are trying to discredit the President because he is governing so well
-
Some people think that a person from a certain island and a certain lineage should come to power; however, that is not right
-
Even if there is a personal desire to do something through the government, it should be within limits, to an extent that the country and the President can tolerate
