A man committed suicide in Maafushi jail on Tuesday.
The 62-year-old man, who was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a child, has died, corrections said.
According to the agency:

Abdul Ghani Ismail was found dead at 6:52 am

He was immediately taken to Maafushi hospital

A doctor pronounced him dead at 7:21 am
"... The service immediately informed his family, the Inspector of Correctional Service, the Maldives Police Service, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and the National Integrity Commission. The MCS Professional Standards has launched an investigation," the corrections said.
This is the second such death in a month. Adam Athhar, who was remanded for kidnapping and torturing his girlfriend on September 1, also committed suicide.
