MIFCO records highest January fish collection in 28 years

The state-owned fish company, MIFCO, recorded the highest fish collection for January in 28 years, the Fisheries Ministry announced Monday.
According to the ministry, 8,324 metric tonnes of fish were weighed for MIFCO last month.

Figures released by MIFCO indicate that more than MVR 100 million has been disbursed to boats that weighed fish in January.
The government has committed to making payments for weighed fish within 48 hours of milking. This commitment has been upheld since December 10.
The Fisheries Ministry and MIFCO continue to release data on the amount allocated to fishermen.
