MVR 224 million in dividends from govt companies

This is MVR 164 million more than the amount received during the same period last year, when dividends totalled MVR 60 million.

The state has received MVR 224 million in dividends from state-owned enterprises (SOEs) so far this year, according to revenue and expenditure data published by the Ministry of Finance last week.

As of the 10th of this month, the government had received MVR 224 million in dividends from SOEs. This is MVR 164 million more than the amount received during the same period last year, when dividends totalled MVR 60 million.

The government expects to receive a total of MVR 710 million in dividends from SOEs by the end of the year. The amount received so far represents 32 percent of that estimate.

Total government revenue so far this year stands at MVR 11.2 billion, an increase of MVR 527 million compared to the same period last year. While non-tax revenue rose by MVR 581 million, tax revenue declined by MVR 64 million. In addition, the state received MVR 56 million in free aid.

The total budget for the current year is MVR 57 billion. The government aims to generate MVR 39 billion in revenue. The projected budget deficit is MVR 9 billion.
