Waheed appointed to MPL board after HDC dismissal
Mohamed Waheed has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
Mohamed Waheed, who was dismissed from the board of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) earlier this month, has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) confirmed the appointment of Waheed, who hails from Mabusthange, Ha. Filladhoo, in an announcement made on Wednesday.
Waheed's previous appointment to the HDC board came in December 2023. However, the PCB has not provided an official reason for his recent removal.
His tenure at HDC ended amid controversy, as all board members—except the chairman—were suspended and had their passports temporarily confiscated during an investigation.
The suspensions were later lifted and travel restrictions removed, but the fallout led to the resignation of HDC’s Managing Director, Fazul Rasheed.
In addition to his roles at HDC and MPL, Waheed has prior experience working with the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) and the Ministry of Housing.
