Parliament approves Asna as central bank deputy governor
The position became vacant following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Ahmed Imad.
Parliament on Monday approved the appointment of Aishath Asna Hamdhu as Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
The position became vacant following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Ahmed Imad.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu nominated Asna for the post late last month. The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee reviewed the nomination and approved her appointment last week.
The committee’s report was submitted to the floor on Monday, and the appointment was approved with 73 votes in favour. No member voted against the motion.
Asna is currently serving as the Head of the Financial Institution Development Department at the MMA. She was appointed to this position following structural changes implemented by Governor Ahmed Munawwar, who took office in November last year. Under these changes, heads of departments were appointed as Managing Directors.
Asna has worked at the MMA for approximately 15 years.
