President opens Muli airport in Meemu atoll

The airport in M. Muli was officially inaugurated Tuesday by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held on the island.
Construction work on Muli Airport began after the project was awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in 2021. The airport has been developed to facilitate domestic air travel.
The airport features a 1,200-metre long and 30-metre wide runway, along with a terminal building designed to accommodate up to 150 passengers at a time.
According to Construction and Infrastructure Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib, the project cost MVR 540 million.
The airport, managed by the Regional Airports Company, opened to public use on 6 May.
The new facility is expected to improve transportation access for residents of Meemu Atoll and support the development of tourism in the region.
