President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the opening of tourism to several atolls in the Maldives that currently have limited resort development.

The move is part of a broader pledge by the President to promote tourism across all regions of the country. The commitment was first made during his presidential campaign and reiterated in his address at the opening session of Parliament earlier this year.

In an X post Friday evening, the President confirmed that tourism is now open to the following atolls: Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Thaa, Laamu, and Addu.

To support this initiative, the government plans to offer concessions to investors interested in tourism development in these regions. The President also said the government would focus on improving roads, transportation networks, and public services in the designated atolls, alongside efforts to promote them as tourism destinations.

He said these measures are expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the development of the respective regions. The decision comes at a time when the government is working to strengthen the national transportation network.
