The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has published the names of 135 businesses that failed to submit tax returns.
This is in line with MIRA’s policy of disclosing the names of businesses that do not comply with filing requirements.
Earlier this year, MIRA released the names of 152 businesses that had not filed Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Green Tax returns until May. The figure has since fallen, with 17 businesses submitting their statements.
MIRA stated that businesses failing to file their tax returns are notified by SMS and informed of the penalties imposed for non-payment.
The authority reiterated that if taxes and other dues owed to the state remain unpaid, measures under MIRA’s enforcement policy will be applied without exception. Businesses are urged to settle their outstanding liabilities.
