Finance Minister Moosa Zameer said on Thursday that the Maldivian economy is projected to grow by 5.3 percent next year.
Presenting the 2026 state budget, Zameer stated that the country’s average annual economic growth between 2026 and 2028 is expected to be around 4.9 percent.
The minister said the number of tourists visiting the Maldives is projected to rise in 2026 and in the medium term, supported by ongoing improvements to regional airports.
He noted that tourism-related industries are also expected to expand alongside the sector’s growth.
Taking into account the planned expenditure on the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), Zameer said the construction and real estate sectors are forecast to grow by an average of 3.1 percent.
The 2026 state budget is estimated at MVR 64.4 billion, with total revenue projected at MVR 40.4 billion and total expenditure at MVR 49.2 billion.
