Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that the Maldives offers a comprehensive tourism product and continues to attract global interest as a destination for travel and investment.

Saeed made the remarks in an interview with an Indian newspaper on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Responding to a question on how the Maldives is viewed as an investment destination despite its proximity to India, one of the world’s largest economies, Saeed referred to the country’s tourism offering and climate.

He contrasted the weather conditions in Davos with those in the Maldives and said the country provides a different environment for visitors.

He said the Maldives continues to attract international hotel brands and has a workforce with experience in the hospitality sector.

Saeed said proximity to India was an advantage, noting that India is a major market and that growth in its middle-income population presents opportunities for regional tourism.

The World Economic Forum in Davos is scheduled to continue until Sunday. The forum is attended by leaders and representatives from more than 60 countries.
