The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has reduced registration and category fees for food service establishments by 50 per cent for a period of two years.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the MFDA said the reduction applies to registration and annual category fees charged under its food service regulation. Food service establishments and individuals are registered and licensed by the authority under this regulation.
Food service establishments are classified into 14 categories. Under the existing rules, a one-time registration fee of MVR 500 is charged for all establishments. With the new change, the registration fee has been reduced to MVR 250.
Annual category fees, which previously ranged from MVR 500 to MVR 2,000 depending on the type of establishment, have also been reduced by half from Wednesday.
Under the revised structure, the applicable fees are:
-
MVR 1,000 for establishments registered with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, including tea houses, cafés, restaurants and canteens, with an additional MVR 50 for each extra kitchen or serving area and MVR 50 for each additional 50 seats
-
MVR 500 for catering services, bakeries and pastry shops
-
MVR 1,000 for takeaway outlets preparing and selling rice parcels
-
MVR 1,000 for commercial kitchens that prepare and serve food
-
MVR 1,000 for snack shops
-
MVR 1,000 for juice outlets
-
MVR 250 for street food vendors, carts and food vehicles
The MFDA said the revised fees will remain in effect for two years.
