Investor confidence rises in Maldives, president says

President Mohamed Muizzu said investor confidence in Maldives has increased, speaking at the Maldives–Germany Business Roundtable in Berlin during his visit to Germany on Tuesday.
The President met German business leaders and outlined the country’s plans for the economy, institutions and development. He stated that the plan is to strengthen the economy, modernise institutions, protect the environment and improve daily life.
The President said further access to foreign exchange and digitisation of public services are steps towards this plan. He said official reserves have reached record levels and circulation of foreign exchange has increased.
He said reducing the budget deficit remains a policy priority and that financial discipline is part of government policy. In a statement, the President’s Office said these developments have led to higher investor confidence and that companies such as Google are investing to support digital connectivity.
Speaking on the financial sector, he said Maldives aims to provide a system based on rules that supports long-term partnerships. He also referred to the role of German investors, tour operators and financial institutions in tourism and invited them to take part in activities linked to Visit Maldives Year 2027.
The President referred to projects including the ‘Ayla – Sustainable Township’. He also said energy security and energy prices remain a challenge and that work is needed on energy transition. He said projects such as solar cities aim to cut emissions and develop solutions for economies based on islands and coastal resources, adding that such approaches could be studied in Maldives.
According to the President’s Office, Invest Maldives presented information on the investment climate and opportunities. The Ministry of Tourism shared information on tourism and environmental work. German companies also presented data and held discussions with the Maldives delegation.
The roundtable included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Diatuer Deutschland GmbH and Visit Maldives on cooperation in destination promotion and marketing.
