Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has received a new stock of MVR 20 banknotes following a decline in circulation of notes in that denomination.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the MMA said stocks of MVR 20 notes from the Ran Dhiha Faheh series had reduced, prompting the authority to bring in a new consignment on Saturday. The MMA did not disclose the quantity of notes received.
The previous issue of MVR 20 notes was signed by former MMA Governor Ali Hashim and released in March 2022. That issue was introduced as stocks of MVR 20 notes printed in 2015 were nearing depletion.
The newly received notes are expected to be the first MVR 20 notes to carry the signature of the current MMA Governor, Ahmed Munawwar.
