President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives is not facing any shortages in food supply and that prices of essential commodities will remain unchanged despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The President made the statement on Monday during a press conference held at the President’s Office.

He said the government is monitoring the impact of the conflict on the Maldives and is conducting assessments to determine the required measures.

The President stated that the administration is tracking issues related to the supply of fuel and food, as well as potential effects on the tourism sector.

“Regarding essential food items, the situation remains as it was before the conflict; rice, sugar, and flour are being imported and stocked without interruption. We have not encountered any difficulties in this regard, nor do we anticipate any. Prices will not increase,” he said.

The President added that, as of the 18th of this month, the country’s gross reserves remain at previous levels.

He also stated that global fuel prices have increased due to supply conditions and that the government is monitoring these changes.

The President said steps are being taken to reduce the impact of fuel price changes on the public.

“In general, we are addressing all the impacts on the Maldives resulting from this conflict and taking the necessary measures,” he said.

The President also confirmed that the government plans to establish fuel reserves in three regions of the Maldives.
