MMA grants licence to Janah's Maldives Premier Bank
With the addition of Maldives Premier Bank, the total number of banks operating in the Maldives increases to nine.
The Maldives Monetary Authority on Monday granted a banking licence and operational approval to Maldives Premier Bank to begin banking services in the Maldives.
According to records at the Ministry of Economic Development, the sole shareholder of the bank is Mohamed Ali Janah, who also serves as the President’s Advisor on Economic and Trade matters.
In a statement, the MMA said the banking licence was formally handed over during a ceremony held at the central bank on Monday.
The licence was accepted by Aisha Noorain Janah, Chairperson of Maldives Airports Company Limited and daughter of Mohamed Ali Janah.

The ceremony was attended by the Governor and Deputy Governor of the MMA, members of the central bank’s executive committee and senior officials from Maldives Premier Bank.

The MMA stated that the move would contribute to expanding financial services and increasing competition within the banking sector.
