The government has published a list of 19 projects designated as priority initiatives under a policy aimed at advancing national development objectives.

The projects were identified through a Presidential Decree issued under provisions of the Tourism Act, which requires the formal designation of projects undertaken in the public interest.

According to the decree, the projects form part of the government's economic, social and development agenda and will be implemented under investment requirements specified for each sector.

The decree also establishes minimum investment thresholds that must be met by parties undertaking the projects.

The 19 projects are divided into five sectors:

  • Tourism and Civil Aviation: Five projects with a minimum combined investment requirement of USD 25 million.

  • National Security, Defence and Technology: Five projects with a minimum combined investment requirement of USD 155 million.

  • Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development: Four projects with a minimum combined investment requirement of USD 10 million.

  • Youth Development and Sports: One project with a minimum investment requirement of USD 20 million.

  • Climate Change and Environment: Four projects with a minimum combined investment requirement of USD 17 million.

The decree states that the projects have been identified to support government policies and development plans.

It also provides the legal basis for implementing projects that the government considers necessary to achieve national objectives in areas including economic development, public services and infrastructure.

Several projects included in the framework are linked to government programmes in the tourism and housing sectors.

The publication of the decree establishes the projects as initiatives to be pursued under the public interest provisions of the Tourism Act and sets out the investment requirements applicable to each category.
