President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Ameeza as the Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

Ameeza, of Cozy Round, GDh. Gaddhoo, previously served as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA. Her appointment follows parliamentary approval last week.

According to information released on her appointment, Ameeza has more than 16 years of experience at MIRA.

During her tenure as Deputy Commissioner General, she was involved in tax policy reforms and efforts to strengthen the authority's administrative framework and revenue collection systems.

Before assuming that role, she headed MIRA's Enforcement Division, where she oversaw initiatives to recover unpaid tax and non-tax revenue through the use of data analytics and evidence-based enforcement measures.

Ameeza holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia and a bachelor's degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
