The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has recovered MVR 623 million in outstanding taxes and fees during the first nine months of 2026, while total unpaid amounts owed to the state remain above MVR 14 billion.

According to MIRA's revenue statistics for September, the authority collected the outstanding payments through recovery measures, including payment notices, instalment arrangements and enforcement actions.

Of the amount recovered, MVR 394.5 million was collected following the issuance of payment notices to taxpayers with outstanding liabilities.

A further MVR 123.4 million was recovered through instalment payment arrangements, allowing taxpayers to settle their outstanding obligations over an agreed period.

MIRA also collected MVR 86.58 million through opportunities provided to taxpayers to settle overdue payments.

An additional MVR 10 million was recovered through telephone calls and emails requesting payment, while MVR 8.43 million was collected through bank account freezing measures.

Despite these recoveries, MIRA's figures show that outstanding taxes and fees owed to the government exceed MVR 14 billion.

The statistics also indicate that total government revenue collected through MIRA reached MVR 27.8 billion over the reported ten-month period.

This represents an increase of MVR 2.3 billion compared with the corresponding period last year.
