Economic minister Mohamed Saeed said on Monday that the work of the integrated development project in the northernmost Ihavandhippolhu and the commercial port to be developed near L. Gaadhoo -- projects initiated during former President Abdulla Yameen's government -- will resume.
Saeed made the announcement in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Saeed said the works of the Male commercial port will also continue and details will be announced very soon.
The i-Havan project, announced by then President Yameen at the 2014 Investment Forum held in Singapore, seeks to develop a trading and business hub in the northernmost Haa Alif atoll, which would act as an “entrepot”, and is part of a broader integrated project in the atoll.
Yameen's government also announced the development of a transshipment port in Gaadhoo. People living in Gaadhoo were also relocated to Funadhoo island in the atoll.
There is a project already underway to relocate the commercial port of Male to Gulhifalhu.
