TGST, Green Tax dues cross MVR 1 billion

Outstanding dues for Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) and Green Tax since the introduction of the two taxes now stand at MVR 1 billion, statistics have revealed.

In a written reply to a question posed by Maafannu Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed, finance minister Ibrahim Ameer revealed the tax dues for TGST and Green Tax which are collected from tourists staying in resorts, hotels, guesthouses and liveaboard vessels and paid by the establishments to the state.

Dues for TGST, which came into effect from October 2011:

  • Taxes - MVR 632 million

  • Fine - MVR 240 million

  • Total - MVR 872 million

Dues for green tax introduced in 2015: 

  • Tax - MVR 85 million

  • Fine - MVR 42 million

  • Total - MVR 128 million

The total amount of dues from these two taxes now stand at over MVR 1 billion.
