The government has decided to change the times of garbage collection and freight transport to night only as part of the Fehi Male programme launched Wednesday to reduce congestion on the streets of the capital city.
The programme, which was inaugurated by President Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge, will change the time of transportation of goods in vehicles larger than a certain size.
The changes were made after consultation with the relevant authorities. Accordingly, it has been decided:
-
Garbage collection hours in the Male region will be changed from 10pm to 5am
-
Transport of goods from 8pm to 5am using vehicles larger than a specified size
The changes are necessary to reduce road congestion, the transport ministry said.
The Fehi Male programme has been divided into three major components. These include automobile registration through rules and regulations, limiting the number of vehicles, enhancing and developing public transportation facilities, and making roadways safer, easier, and more tranquil for pedestrians.
