Since 2017, we have worked with the Maldives Ministry of Education, schools and educators to offer Pearson Edexcel International A Level qualifications to Maldivian students.

We are proud of our partnership with the Ministry of Education, and we are pleased to continue to support Maldivian students to gain our globally recognised international qualifications, for the remainder of our contract with the Ministry.

Globally recognised qualifications for globally minded Maldivian students

Our globally recognised International A level qualifications equip young Maldivians with the skills and competencies they need to thrive – whether that’s by contributing to economic growth and innovation on the islands, or by progressing to universities worldwide or into international careers.

Pearson Edexcel International A Levels help students develop the transferable skills they need – such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication skills – to take their place in the twenty-first century workplace.

Our qualifications set the standard for worldwide recognised qualifications aligned to the British educational system and our International A levels are accepted by universities worldwide for entry onto undergraduate degree programmes1.

In collaboration with the Maldives Ministry of Education, we have seen steady growth in Maldivian student outcomes since 2017, with a pre-pandemic pass rate of over 70%.

Local support for the ministry and Maldivian schools

Our local Pearson Edexcel team remain on hand seven days a week to support our partnership with the Maldives Ministry of Education.

Providing our support directly to all schools and students – as opposed to inviting only a select few to the UK – enables us to share our expertise and reach and train as many educators as possible, to respond more effectively to local challenges and to hear directly from teachers and students, all of which will continue to improve student outcomes across the country.

Accessible and value for money qualifications

As an international qualifications partner to thousands of schools around the world, we are committed to ensuring our qualifications are accessible and represent value for money, whether that is through the volume of unrivalled additional services that are included in our Pearson Edexcel offer, or by our sensitivity to local economic needs.

Proven experience in localised curriculum development

We understand the ultimate desire for Maldivian students to have the opportunity to study a curriculum that more closely reflects the culture, history and values of the Maldives and would be pleased to support this ambition.

We work with ministries around the world to support the delivery of their high-stakes assessments – such as in Egypt and Oman – where we bring the power of our onscreen testing and e-marking capabilities to public school assessments and would welcome the opportunity to support the Maldives government in this way.

Looking to the future

We’re proud of the work we have done over the last five years, and we are proud of the partnership we have developed with the Ministry of Education. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to provide Pearson Edexcel International A levels to young Maldivians and we will continue to support educators and students for the remainder of our contract with the Maldives government.

1 UK NARIC, the designated national agency for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills on behalf of the UK government, confirms the comparability of Pearson Edexcel International A Levels as comparable to the UK curriculum GCE A Level standard in terms of content, demand and university admission.
