Police on Saturday issued a warning as fraud cases targeting elderly citizens are on the rise, with an increase in reports of robbery involving seniors.

According to a report published on the police website, criminals are using deceitful tactics to gain the trust of elderly individuals before robbing them.

The police have outlined a typical pattern in these crimes: the perpetrators approach elderly victims, pretending to be acquaintances. After gaining their trust, they lure them to various locations where the victims are robbed.

In response to the growing number of these cases, police have issued the following warnings:

  • The public is urged to be cautious of individuals who may try to take advantage of the elderly.

  • Families of elderly citizens are encouraged to remain particularly vigilant and to regularly check in on their loved ones.

  • Any suspicious activity or encounters should be immediately reported to the police via the hotline number 3322111 or the emergency number.

In addition to these warnings, the police have highlighted a troubling trend in which men are being taken to a shelter tower apartment and robbed.

This year alone, two individuals have been charged in connection with these incidents. The case has since been forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office for further action.
