183 candidates sit for this year’s bar examination
The Bar Council began conducting the exam in 2022, and since then, it has been held annually.
The annual bar examination took place Saturday, with a total of 183 candidates participating in the event.
This exam, conducted by the Bar Council of the Maldives, is a key requirement for practicing law in the country.
According to the Legal Act, which was passed in 2019, passing the bar exam is one of three essential requirements for obtaining the right to practice law in the Maldives.
The Bar Council began conducting the exam in 2022, and since then, it has been held annually.
With this year’s examination, a total of 505 candidates have taken the bar exam over the past three years.
This year's exam took place at Villa College. The Bar Council reported that while 190 candidates registered for the exam, 183 showed up to sit for it.
In a statement, the Bar Council highlighted additional resources provided to this year’s participants, saying,
“The Council issued both recorded lectures and new materials relevant to the updated sections of the examination,” it said.
The exam covers six key areas of law, reflecting both theoretical and practical components relevant to the Maldives' legal framework:
1. Contract Law and Practice
2. Criminal Law and Procedures
3. Land Law and Practice
4. Constitutional and Administrative Law
5. Tort Law
6. Maldives Legal System
The exam consisted of 120 multiple-choice questions, offered in both Dhivehi and English.
