4 drug dealers sentenced to life, fined MVR 1.5 million

Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment, equivalent to 25 years, for their involvement in drug trafficking, and ordered fines totalling millions of Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) and mandated the recovery of significant sums seized during the arrest.
The four people were arrested on January 12, 2021, following a tip-off about a large-scale drug trade operating in Male.
After a detailed investigation, they were charged with trafficking diamorphine, a powerful opioid.
The court found them guilty and imposed severe sentences to reflect the gravity of the offense.

The court further ordered the recovery of MVR 1.5 million that was confiscated during the arrests.
This sum included MVR 76,675 found in the guesthouse room occupied by Shaaniya and Shareef, and MVR 1,466,000 seized from Hassan Looth’s house. In total, the authorities confiscated MVR 1,542,675.
