A man in his 40s, who suffered a heart attack during the Dhiraagu road race in Hulhumale last month, has passed away.

The incident occurred shortly after he finished the race in October. Following his collapse, the runner was promptly taken to the Tree Top hospital for immediate treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he died early this evening, as confirmed by his family.

The Dhiraagu road race, an annual event that has been held since 2007, attracted a total of 4,400 participants this year. The event, which brings together runners of all ages and abilities, is known for its vibrant atmosphere and community spirit.

In addition to the sense of camaraderie among participants, the race offers cash prizes to the winners in various categories.

The organisers and the community are offering condolences to the family of the deceased, and many runners have expressed their shock and sadness over the loss.

The Dhiraagu road race remains one of the biggest sporting events in the region, highlighting the importance of fitness, but also serving as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of health during intense physical exertion. The incident has led to calls for increased awareness about heart health and precautions for participants in future races.
