Former Elections Commission (EC) President Fuad Thaufeeq has been nominated as the Maldives' ambassador to Thailand.

President Mohamed Muizzu submitted the nomination to the parliament, where it was presented during Monday’s session. Following its submission, the matter was referred to the foreign relations committee for evaluation.

Fuad's appointment will proceed after the committee reviews the nomination and presents its findings to the parliament for approval.

Fuad’s term as the president of the Elections Commission ended on Saturday. He was first appointed as a member of the EC on November 24, 2008, and later served as its president during two separate terms.

In addition to Fuad's nomination, former EC Vice President Ismail Habeeb has been appointed as a member in the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.
