2 ACC members quit ahead of no-confidence vote in parliament
In addition to Salam and Thoha, the committee approved the dismissal of EC Vice President Ali Nashath, and members Mohamed Zahir and Mohamed Asif.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Vice President Abdul Salam and member Thoha Mohamed have resigned ahead of a parliamentary vote on their removal from office.
The two officials submitted their resignations shortly before parliament was set to vote on their dismissal on Monday. This followed a decision by the independent institutions committee, which had confidentially voted the previous day to remove them from their posts.
In their resignation letters, Salam and Thoha stated that the committee initiated proceedings to remove them based on what they described as false allegations. They maintained that they had been fulfilling their responsibilities with independence and integrity.
The officials further alleged that the committee's actions undermined the ACC’s ability to operate without external interference.
