President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday announced an extension to the New Year’s holiday, declaring Thursday, January 2, 2025, a public holiday.
This decision ensures an extended break for citizens, aligning with the New Year's Day holiday on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
In a statement released by the President’s Office, it was highlighted that the extension would provide a more seamless holiday experience, allowing families and individuals additional time to celebrate and relax at the start of the new year.
With this declaration, public offices and institutions will remain closed on both January 1 and January 2, giving Maldivians an uninterrupted two-day holiday midweek.
