NSPA deputy CEO dismissed

Shiuna Ahmed, the Deputy CEO of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), has been dismissed from her position.

A government official confirmed the dismissal on Thursday, though the specific reasons for her removal remain unclear.

Shiuna is the sister of Adam Rameez, a former minister in the President's Office and once a close associate of President Muizzu. Adam Rameez was also recently sacked, adding to the intrigue surrounding the developments.

The dismissal comes in the wake of allegations of irregularities involving NSPA. Notably, controversy arose over a deal between NSPA and Maldives Media Housing (MMH), which manages MMTV, a television channel linked to President Muizzu or his associates. The agreement involved the rental of an office building at what critics claim was an unreasonably high price.

While NSPA has stated that the office rental was conducted in line with established rules, public backlash led to the cancellation of the agreement. This controversy has further fueled speculation about Shiuna's dismissal and the potential connections between the incidents.
