Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will play a significant role in shaping the country’s political future, party chairman Fayyaz Ismail said Sunday.

Several senior members of the Democrats, a party formed in 2023 following differences within the MDP, have rejoined the MDP. These include:

  • Hassan Latheef, President of the Democrats

  • Mohamed Shifaz, Vice President of the Democrats

  • Hussain Amr, former Managing Director of STO

  • Ali Azim, former member of parliament

In a post on X, Fayyaz welcomed the returning members, emphasising their contribution to the party’s efforts for the people of the Maldives.

The MDP has announced plans to hold a street rally under the banner "Defending the Constitution" on January 31.
