The request to summon the Home Minister was made by MDP MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem.

Home Minister Ali Ihsan has been summoned to the parliament for questioning regarding reports of fake membership forms filled out under the names of various individuals.

Recent reports indicate that members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Assembly, ordinary MDP members, members of other parties, and individuals unaffiliated with any political party have been falsely listed as members of the Progressive National Congress (PNC). Among those affected is Vikaradhoo MP Hussein Ziyad, who has since been returned to the MDP membership list.

The request to summon the Home Minister was made by MDP MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, who raised concerns about the misuse of personal information and procedural violations. Meekail submitted two key questions for the Minister:

  • 1-

What steps are being taken to protect personal information, following reports that data from the Department of National Registration (DNR) was allegedly used to falsify membership forms for the PNC?

  • 2-

Have any actions been taken against ministry officials accused of signing these invalid forms as witnesses?

Social media has circulated forms allegedly containing the signature of a deputy minister of home affairs responsible for overseeing the DNR. These forms are claimed to show evidence of individuals being fraudulently registered with the PNC. The Deputy Minister has denied the allegations, stating that he has not signed any forms and believes the signatures shown on social media are fabricated.

An extraordinary sitting of parliament is scheduled for Thursday, although the agenda does not currently include questioning Ihsan. However, it is anticipated that he will be summoned for questioning during the second extraordinary sitting on Monday.

According to parliamentary rules of procedure, ministers are required to attend sessions where their responses to questions are listed on the agenda and to provide answers when given the opportunity by the Speaker.
