ACC raids police company offices over housing project graft
The ACC has now officially entered Polco to scrutinize the handling of the project, a message sent to the police media group confirmed.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday raided the offices of the Police Cooperative Society (POLCO) regarding alleged financial irregularities in the Blues Housing Project.
According to an audit report released last month, the MVR 1 billion housing project has been marred by fraud over the past 11 years. The ACC has now officially entered POLCO to scrutinize the handling of the project, a message sent to the police media group confirmed.
A key issue highlighted in the audit report is the awarding of the project to Noomadi for MVR 580 million without a competitive bidding process. The company was not subjected to review by the tender evaluation board, nor were its financial and technical capacities or prior experience assessed before awarding the contract.
Due to these shortcomings, Noomadi was eventually forced to relinquish the project, handing it over to other parties. This led to increased project costs and further complications, as stated in the audit report.
