Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has launched an investigation into the broadcast of a song critical of the government by opposition-aligned Raajje TV.

Broadcom sent a letter to Raajje TV Monday, informing the station of the investigation into the song aired during the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally on Friday.

The letter, signed by Broadcasting Commission Legal Director Aishath Hadhiya Mohamed, stated that the commission had decided to review the content of the song broadcast on 26 January.

Raajje TV has been asked to "reserve" the song until the investigation is completed and a decision is made. However, the letter did not specify the reason for the inquiry.

The song, composed by presenter Amir Salim, contains lyrics critical of the government and President Mohamed Muizzu. The accompanying video features footage of President Muizzu, government officials, and scenes from the People's National Congress (PNC) presidential campaign.

On 26 January, Broadcom also sent a letter to Raajje TV, advising the station to ensure its content complies with broadcasting regulations and guidelines.

Two new members have recently been appointed to Broadcom, including former Member of Parliament and film actor Mohamed Abdulla. He was present to welcome President Muizzu during the president’s recent visit to HA. Ihavandhoo.
